2019 Syrah


Our Syrah is a field blend of 75% Syrah, 9% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, and 3% Viognier, which were hand harvested and then sorted at the winery to remove imperfect clusters. Destemmed and partially crushed on the way to the fermentor, the several varieties were co-fermented with indigenous yeast in an open-top fermentor, managed with twice daily punchdowns, allowed to stay 10 days on the skins before pressing to two-year old french oak barrels. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel and remained in barrel for approximately 20 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The wine opens with aromas of broken earth, then layers of black olive, grilled meat, and ripe nectarine laced with hints of tarragon and spice.
